The Shop — Where Everything Happens

At John’s Urban Timber, everything happens right here in our Whitmore Lake workshop — milling, vacuum kiln drying, flattening, planing, sanding, and precision jointing. We work with locally reclaimed or customer-supplied logs to create stable, beautiful slabs and project-ready lumber.

What We Offer In-House

Live-Edge Slabs & Lumber: Reclaimed Walnut, Sugar Maple, White Oak, Cherry, Elm, Ash, and local hardwoods.
In-House Shop Services: Flattening, helical planing (up to 20″), abrasive planing (up to 51″), wide-belt sanding (up to 42″), and face jointing.
Vacuum Kiln Drying: Low-temperature, rapid moisture reduction (6%–8% MC) preventing cracking and preserving natural wood color.
Custom Prep: Target thickness, book-matched pairs, square or live edge, ready for finish.

• Dimensional lumber is milled to order for larger quantities.
• We work exclusively with reclaimed or customer-supplied logs — zero commercial harvesting.
