At John’s Urban Timber, everything happens right here in our Whitmore Lake workshop — milling, vacuum kiln drying, flattening, planing, sanding, and precision jointing. We work with locally reclaimed or customer-supplied logs to create stable, beautiful slabs and project-ready lumber.

In-House Capabilities

What we offer under one roof

  • Live-Edge Slabs & Lumber

    Reclaimed Black Walnut, Sugar Maple, White Oak, Cherry, Elm, Ash, and character Michigan hardwoods.

  • In-House Surfacing & Flattening

    Helical planing up to 20" wide, abrasive slab flattening up to 51" wide, dual-head wide-belt sanding up to 42" wide, and precision face jointing.

  • Vacuum Kiln Drying

    Low-temperature, rapid moisture reduction to 6%–8% moisture content — preventing cracking and preserving natural wood color.

  • Custom Project Prep

    Target thickness surfacing, bookmatched dining pairs, straight-line ripping, and finish-ready surfaces.

  • • We work exclusively with reclaimed or customer-supplied logs — zero commercial harvesting.
